&tradition In between SK3 table stained black oak ø90cm0 out of 5
The In Between chair was the first chair to be added to the &tradition stable of furniture and Kallio has reinterpreted certain aspects of the chair in the creation of the table. The curvature of the circular table is for example reminiscent of the negative space in the form of the chair’s backrest. Similarly the angles of the legs of the table reflect the angles of the chair legs. The table legs were created using woodturning, a traditional technique that uses a lathe to shape wood. For &tradition a connection to the past is an essential component for any item in the collection. “Wood turning is a result of my love for Scandinavian heritage and traditional wood crafting,” says Kallio,“there is a satisfaction that comes from using old techniques.” The materials used for the table further solidify a link to the past. The solid oak used is a sturdy, reliable wood that is steeped in Scandinavian heritage. “Oak is a good long-lasting material that people can easily relate to,” says Kallio. Although some of the manufacturing processes are traditional, the table still comes disassembled as a flat-pack, addressing ease of transport in a modern world. Furthermore, the shape of the table has been chosen to address issues within modern interiors. Its round shape means it must be brought away from walls, therefore taking an active role in any room. The circular form of the table also means that interaction when sat at the table is a more intimate and egalitarian affair.

Oku is an interpretation of the Japanese word for oak ‘Ōku’. Oku refers to the essence of the design – oak. ”Through experiments with the balance between lightness and heaviness, making it paper thin when seen from one angle and solid from others, we’ve emphasised the material in a simple design”.
The Oku table top is produced in oak veneer with round edges, adding a refined detail to the large surface. The legs of turned oak timber sections, is positioned sporadic to create the illusion of a floating table top, while also adding a sculptural detail to the table.
Oku comes in both rectangular and circular shapes, with several size options for every room.

&tradition Pavilion AV1 by Anderssen & Voll black lacquered oak0 out of 5
Located on the castle grounds of Copenhagen’s Kastellet overlooking the waterfront promenade that is home to the Little Mermaid, The Langelinie Pavilion stands with a resilient spirit. The first Pavilion was built in 1885. The second was built in 1902 for the Royal Danish Yacht Club but was sadly destroyed during World War II. The current Pavilion was built 1958 by architect couple Eva and Niels Koppel in homage to modernism. Echoing its own ability to endure is the Pavilion chair by Andersen & Voll. Here the challenge was to design a stackable chair used for mass seating in this iconic, multi-purpose venue, the Langelinie Pavilion. Torbjørn Anderssen and Espen Voll wanted to link early modernism with new modernism. “Often tube chairs are constructed at fixed angles,” notes Anderssen. “We wanted a freer form of expression and explored the idea of bent tubing teamed with bent plywood.” “The Pavilion chair has an airy feeling, with slim arms and legs that give it a light appearance,” explains Voll. “A softer aesthetic in a curvaceous silhouette that’s barely there.” The effect is lyrical, graceful and poetic. Almost like a tied rope that has come undone.

The Elephant Chair, designed by Kristian Sofus Hansen and Tommy Hyldahl, is a modern interpretation of Scandinavian minimalism combined with Japanese aesthetics. The design is inspired by Danish upholstered chairs of the 1950’s, while drawing visible characteristics from the already iconic Mammoth Chair. The result is a light and elegant lounge chair where the Elephant ear shaped back gently curves around the body providing superior comfort.
The Elephant chair is hand-crafted with a solid oak wood frame. The chair comes in four frame variations; Natural, Dark Stained, Black and Smoked, and can be upholstered with leather, wool and sheepskin.
The seat and back are made from the highest quality compression molded oak veneer shells. The two shells are pressed in the same press mold, and surround the body in a light soft curve. The legs are designed as one single profile without any visible joints. This enriches the experience of the material strength and exchange between the light and heavy dimensions; “elegant and simple but sturdy without being clumsy”.
&tradition Hoof table SW1 by Samuel Wilkinson smoked oak0 out of 5
ÔThe main inspiration for Samuel WilkinsonÕs Hoof table derives from the feet which are sharpened at the ends producing a striking yet functional detail. The word ÔhoofÕ originates from the protective part of the feet of ungulate animals. In contrast to most tables, the leg ends of Hoof are left in natural wood to avoid the paint from chipping off from being either kicked or knocked when cleaning. The foot detail is created by reversing the usual manufacturing process. Most furniture that have a painted section and a natural part are initially assembled, then masked off, and painted. Hoof stands out by being painted first and then trimmed back to reveal the natural grain. The table has emerged from continuous exploration and development of production techniques to create a fresh aesthetic. Another detail that stands out when you experience the table is the soft rolled edge. The fine edge is created from the soft chamfer being on the top and bottom. This also gives the tables a tactile feel and clearly shows that the tables are made from solid wood. & much of WilkinsonÕs design carry references to nature and the beautiful, unimaginable creations found in the scenery.
